Rainer Becker
Chief Operating Officer, Urban Active
General Motors Company

Rainer Becker joins Maven and GM’s Urban Active division after years of building car-sharing operations in Europe and China. In his current role as Chief Operating Officer he is charged with managing the operational Maven business which includes fleet handling, member services, and local field operations.

Unlike traditional automotive manufacturer procedures, Rainer stresses the importance of implementing new offerings quickly, gathering customer feedback, tweaking based on feedback and then redeploying. He is currently focused on creating the most efficient and value-adding version of Maven possible.

Rainer is working toward a day when urban mobility converges with autonomous vehicles to create a convenient and safe driverless future. He sees Maven as a crucial piece of this puzzle. In joining General Motors in 2017, Rainer felt that GM was uniquely prepared for the upcoming disruptive changes in automotive, technology and culture.

Prior to joining General Motors, he was part of the team that invented the world’s first free-floating car sharing product in 2008. In that role, he oversaw design, sales and implementation of the product and managed operations. He studied Aeronautics at the Technical University of Aachen in Germany.

When living in Europe and China, Rainer chose not to own a vehicle. He got around using a mix of public transportation, car-sharing and bike-sharing. He speaks German, English, French and Japanese, and enjoys traveling, getting outdoors, music and reading.
