Mike Cleary

Over the course of a 35-year career in the Automotive and Truck Industry, Mike Cleary has served many roles: Technician, Shop Foreman, Service Manager, Service Advisor, Shop Owner, Trainer, and Consultant, to name just a few.

Mike is an eight-time award-winning Ford Senior Master Technician with over three decades of hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics, repair, and advanced training. He is recognized across the industry for his deep technical expertise and engaging teaching style. While employed as shop foreman at Freedom Ford in Fresno, California, Mike was one of 19 North American Technicians in the country to serve on two corporate Ford Technician Advisory Panels. He received national recognition from Ford Motor Company for his contributions to Ford as a field technician involved in improving the 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel Engine Program.

Mike holds advanced ASE certificates in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Systems, Electronic Diesel Engine Systems, Gasoline Engine Systems, and Alternative Fuel Systems. He is ASE certified as a Master Technician in both the Gasoline and Medium/Heavy Truck categories. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology with an emphasis in Transportation Systems Technology, as well as being a lifetime full member in the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Mike is the owner and founder of Automotive Technical Support Services (ATSS). As the Director of Technical Training, he provides international training and consulting services to technicians, fleet managers, and OEMs. Through ATSS, he develops cutting-edge curriculum and delivers live, practical training designed to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application. His seminars—hosted internationally, and available online—are trusted by fleets, independent shops, and dealership teams alike for their clarity, relevance, and technical depth. Throughout his career, Mike has been instrumental in advancing technician skill levels, particularly in complex diagnostics and repair technologies. He continues to be a presenter at major industry events, including the Government Fleet Expo, the American Public Works Association’s PWX, the Police Fleet Conference, Automechanika Canada, and the Association of Diesel Specialists International Conventions.

His published technical and management articles have appeared in Government Fleet Magazine, Motor Age Magazine, Master Technician Magazine, and Service Station Management.

He also currently serves as Chief Technical Officer at Cleary Automotive, which he previously owned and managed for 15 years. Mike continues to consult on challenging diagnostic cases, provide tooling and repair strategy recommendations, and mentoring the next generation of automotive professionals.

In October 2025, Mike has been invited to be on the Round Table discussion panel for the Fleet Forward Conference in San Diego, where he will share practical strategies for fleet electrification, advanced diagnostics, and technician training best practices.
